"How Do You Know if the Bible is 100% Accurate?"

On a previous post, a woman named KB identified herself as a Christian, but then later said - "I believe in God, and I read the Bible... however, I do not believe that everything in the Bible has been translated perfectly. I also find it hard to believe that over time, people haven't added their own 2 cents here and there."

Then she said - "Tell me Dani, how do you know if the Bible is 100% accurate?"

That is a fair question, and it deserves an answer. First of all I didn't always believe the Bible, in fact I rejected God's Word for the majority of my life. Once I realized that everything I had ever learned in school was a complete lie, I began searching for the truth on my own. Only recently, in the past several years have I actually studied the Bible and I found out that it is Absolutely True - ALL of it!

The Bible was the first book ever printed back in 1454 A.D. and it has been the number one best seller of all time ever since (unfortunately, the least read book of all time too, apparently).
Taking that into account, I think it would be worth it for you (and anyone else) to actually verify for yourselves if it is true, before you completely discredit it altogether. Whatever you do, definitely do NOT take my word for it - Study on your own to show yourselves approved!

The Bible is a historical book written over a period of 1,500 years, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit by over 40 different authors from all walks of life: shepherds, farmers, tent-makers, physicians, fishermen, priests, tax-collectors, philosophers and kings. Despite these differences in occupation and the span of years it took to write it, the Bible is an extremely cohesive and unified book. All of the people and landmarks in the Bible actually did exist at one time. You can verify all of the locations and landmarks in the Bible by simply doing a study of history and geography -- But, you definitely won't learn that in public school! *More on => Bible History & Geography.

One of the strongest arguments for the accuracy of the Bible is its 100% accuracy in predicting the future. These future predictions are called “prophecies.” The Old Testament was written between approximately 1450 BC and 430 BC and during that time, hundreds of predictions of the future were recorded in the Bible by God’s prophets and then later fulfilled.

While no one personally knows the authors of the Bible, we can know who they are and what they were like through their writings. Many of the authors were put in prison, be-headed and murdered for what they wrote, so I think it is safe to say that their motives were pure and they had no personal agenda to fulfill.

Another good indicator of the Bible's accuracy is the fact that the authors were so honest about their true character. Usually, when people write about themselves they don't write about how evil and wicked they are, they usually only write the good things that would make them look better. King David was an adulterer and a murderer, yet he was a "man after God's own heart" because he repented of his sin. The Apostle Paul called himself the "Chief of all sinners" because he too tortured and murdered many Christians in his time. Yet, God used Paul to preach the Gospel of Grace to us all, and he wrote most of the New Testament in the Bible.

I suppose you would actually have to read the Bible for yourself before you can make false claims of it's accuracy. In many modern translations, some of the 'words' may differ, but the Message remains the same.

The Bible is jammed packed full of verses that pertain to any questions you could possibly have about life: Love, hate, joy, sadness, peace, death, patience, kindness, gentleness, faith, sin, hope, repentance, forgiveness, self-control, anger, wisdom, knowledge, rebuke, understanding, hopelessness, judgment, pain and suffering......the list goes on and on and on.

I guess the main point to understand is: All God requires is that you believe in Him and repent of your sins, then He will reveal the Truth in His Word to you. Until then, you will continue to be blinded by lies and remain willfully ignorant of the Truth.

So the real question is - How Do You Know the Bible is NOT 100% True?

I think the WuTang Clan came up with this saying and I often refer to it: B-I-B-L-E: Basic - Instructions - Before - Leaving - Earth

Good Advice!

  1. I read part of the Bible, but there weren't even any footnotes or references. No index. I'm thinking fiction still.

Why do they lie to us in the Bible. Makes me sad.

  2. This book has also been called the "BuyBull."

I've read it, and while there's just a little bit of interesting stuff, it seems like bad science fiction to me.

All Bible-believers should take the "Why Does God Hate Amputees" challenge!

  3. Oh Jason -- Are you still in grade school?

Did you know that back before the Bible was translated to english, there were no spaces, comas or paragraph breaks? Talk about hard to understand.

Just because there weren't any footnotes or references and no index, does not make it fiction.

Many Bibles today are called "study" Bibles and not only include all of the above, but background history about each book and who authored it.

You can also go online and read the Bible in all the different translations, complete with topic index, word search, footnotes and all => Bible Gateway

Hey FreeThinker, my favorite atheist -- Thanks for stopping by!

First off, the Bible isn't ment to be science fiction, so that's probably why you don't think it's a good story. It's more of a history book combined with some science, but definitely not science-fiction. If it were, don't you think God could just travel back in time and force Adam & Eve not to eat that darn apple? Then we would all be living in paradise with no sin and no death. But, God is a living God and exists here with us in time.

Thanks for the link too, but God does NOT hate amputees. Kinda silly don't you think? Does he also hate the blind, deaf, disabled, those suffering from cancer and disease, or those hit by major floods or hurricane Katrina? NO of course not! But pain and suffering are a real part of life, and it is a result of living in a fallen world in rebellion towards God.

Let me ask you this - If God came down right now and healed all of the amputees in the world, then would you believe???

    Didn't think so!

It's always good to hear from you. Please stay in touch!

  4. Are you prepared to read a book by a staunch fundamentalist christian who was so certain of the inerrancy of the bible, that he set out to study it in depth to prove it's accuracy to us unbelievers.

"Misquoting Jesus : the story of who changed the bible and why / Bart D. Ehrman."

"When world-class biblical scholar Bart Ehrman first began to study the texts of the Bible in their original languages he was startled to discover the multitude of mistakes and intentional alterations that had been made by earlier translators. In Misquoting Jesus, Ehrman tells the story behind the mistakes and changes that ancient scribes made to the New Testament and shows the great impact they had upon the Bible we use today. He frames his account with personal reflections on how his study of the Greek manuscripts made him abandon his once ultraconservative views of the Bible." "Since the advent of the printing press and the accurate reproduction of texts, most people have assumed that when they read the New Testament they are reading an exact copy of Jesus's words or Saint Paul's writings. And yet, for almost fifteen hundred years these manuscripts were hand copied by scribes who were deeply influenced by the cultural, theological, and political disputes of their day. Both mistakes and intentional changes abound in the surviving manuscripts, making the original words difficult to reconstruct. For the first time, Ehrman reveals where and why these changes were made and how scholars go about reconstructing the original words of the New Testament as closely as possible." "Ehrman makes the provocative case that many of our cherished biblical stories and widely held beliefs concerning the divinity of Jesus, the Trinity, and the divine origins of the Bible itself stem from both intentional and accidental alterations by scribes - alterations that dramatically affected all subsequent versions of the Bible."--BOOK JACKET.

I dare you to read it :)

  5. Spammy - thanks for visiting, didn't think you were gonna be back.

That book does look interesting, I will have to do a google search and maybe check it out at the library. I'll add it to my top 100 books to read this summer. I am always open to learning more and studying the facts to find the truth - thanks!

  6. I think we're forgetting one thing though -- it's full of nonsense.

BTW, I read this other blog and apparently the real god is Shiva. You've been wrong all along. Now Shiva doesn't mind that you were a lesbian, but if you keep up your nonsense, she's going to bitchslap you with all four of her hands.

  7. You waste your time, all of you. Dani is not interested in contemplating other arguments. This is evident enough in the shaky evidence she continuously presents, despite the possibility of other answers or plain firm proof to the contrary.

For instance: "The Bible was the first book ever printed back in 1454 A.D. and it has been the number one best seller of all time ever since"

Someone, in a previous response to this, pointed out numerous reasons for why the Bible is the "number one best seller of all time", in particular mass purchases for churches and hotel rooms on a global scale. This would argue strongly against the popularity of such a book or its supposed universal relevance to modern society. Further, it was pointed out that Chairman Mao's Little Red Book was #2 on that list. The Valley of the Dolls by Jacqueline Susann was also there, as well as The Common Sense Book of Baby and Child Care by the author much-hated by Dani, herself, Dr. Benjamin Spock. And yet, here Dani is, spouting the same bullshit as if she'd never read these points in the first place.

It's time anyone reading this blog fully realized that this woman is not listening. She has been trained not to listen, easily indoctrinated into a community of promised certainty because of a turbulent past and a manipulative husband. Don't hate her, pity her.

The tactics here are visibility. Like her mentor, Bob Enyart, victory is determined by how much attention they receive for their views. And her visibility (not to be confused with popularity) is rising. With each preprogrammed statement, more of those that disagree with her words speak up. Normally, I would agree heartily with protesting the misguided and those that hate, but this one is a special case. She does not win because her message is persuasive, she wins because it is not. Because it is so ridiculous that everyone keeps returning, like that delightfully appropriate car crash analogy, to have another peek at the mess.

It's not about reason, it's not about truth, it's not even about God. It's about a woman who was lost and believes she's found her way, when really she's just found someone else to take the burden of choice away from her. That way, she doesn't have to be responsible for anything she says. I bet it's comforting.

  12. Wow. I can't believe all of the mean comments you have on here. I appreciate your effort in trying to give evidence of the bible's accuracy...I've often thought about posting someting similar. How did these people find you...and then turn around and basically persecute you?

Why are they so intimidated by this post? Hmmmmm.

The Bible is my favorite book and it is the most widely purchased book in the world. End of story. No further discussion needed. The argument that they are printed in bulk is silly. They are printed in bulk because there is a DEMAND for them. Get over it people and just get one. Stop being afraid of what's out there and your own salvation. You just don't to be responsible for your actions so it is easier to not believe.
