Today in America sexually transmitted diseases or STDs are at unprecedented proportions. Thirty years of the sexual revolution is paying an ugly dividend, and those most at risk today are teenagers. The aftershock of the sexual revolution has resulted in numerous problems, especially for teenagers. Not only is an unwanted pregnancy a consequence of this “free love” mindset, but also sexually transmitted diseases are proving to be fatal.
This epidemic is a recent phenomenon. Most of these diseases were not around 20 to 30 years ago. Prior to 1960, there were only two common sexually transmitted diseases: syphilis and gonorrhea. Today, there are approximately 25 STDs.
Sexually transmitted diseases are running rampant in this country and around the world. Diseases such as chlamydia, human papilloma virus (HPV), herpes, hepatitis B, pelvic inflammatory disease, and AIDS have joined syphilis and gonorrhea in just the last 30 years.
The human papilloma virus (HPV) is one of the most common STD among young people. This virus is the major cause of venereal warts that can result in infertility and cancer of the cervix. Currently, this virus is killing more women in this country than the AIDS virus.
It is my personally belief that sexually transmitted diseases are a judgment from God. Unless people return to the truth of God’s Word and teach young people to save intercourse for marriage, we will not get to witness our grandchildren growing up. You see, when people abandon Truth and morality, they cannot survive spiritually, mentally or physically. Sin in any form cannot survive!
Today in America we have tolerated, encouraged, and promoted illicit sex without consequence. But we are faced with the grim reality that there are consequences - deadly ones! Since the “free-love” era of the sixties, over 45 million unborn babies have been murdered because of an “unwanted” pregnancy.
The United States' Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reports that nearly 60 million Americans between the ages of 15 and 55 are currently infected with one or more viral STDs. 12 million Americans are newly infected each year, 33,000 people get a new STD every day and 25% of High School students will be infected with an STD before graduation!
There is no question that the fruits of the sexual revolution have been devastating, but it is time to pick up the pieces. “You reap what you sow” is a true statement and fact of life and there is only one message that offers health, hope, and joy to today's teenagers. Parents need to teach young people the value of remaining pure and God’s design for marriage. Most importantly, parents must lead by example and demonstrate what a marriage is supposed to be.
Sex is a wonderful gift, but if uncontrolled, it has a great capacity for evil.
Our bodies (or our minds) were not made to have multiple sex partners. Almost all risk of STD and out-of-wedlock pregnancy can be avoided by saving intercourse for marriage. The lives and souls of our children are in our hands. Parents must take drastic measures to ensure the safety of their children by eliminating the primary elements of teenage sex: divorce, the media, and public schools.
